Artwork #8 of my exhibition. "Venus de Botched" takes from Alexandros of Antioch's "Venus de Milo", drawn with Henri Matisse's pen and ink technique. Matisse had a series of drawings that used shaky lines and minimalism to present a raw image to the viewer, the same thing I was going for with this piece. I used Venus de Milo's representation of beauty and botched it in reference to both illegal plastic surgery practices as well as a commentary on society's pressures on women to look up to par with its expectations.
