Course

IB Art 2

Artwork #4 of my exhibition. Throughout my IB art course, I really wanted to do something inspired by Dr. Seuss and animal trafficking. I thought the mix between the two would make for a funny yet impactful artwork. I was inspired by a news article detailing when two tiger cubs were trafficked in a suitcase, hence the x-ray of a cat. The artwork also includes a 3D aspect to it, but it is only able to be seen in the full IB art exhibition. A cardboard box and bag was used to replicate an airport security scene with even the artwork displayed on a monitor.

This artwork actually went through a couple revisions before reaching what it is now. It was actually quite hard to translate the story I wanted to tell without having it be a pseudo-installation. It was originally a 2D artwork with two cats wrapped around each other rather than one, but the move to 3D and the reduction to one cat with an added striped scarf helped the story and inspiration be clearer.
